I started The Audacity to Podcast as an audio podcast more than 10 years ago (the first episode was published on June 17, 2010), and I had a single motivation in mind:
I believed I had something to say about podcasting that wasn't already being said.
That's not a motivation born from arrogance, but from wanting to provide an additional and—I hope—helpful perspective on podcasting.
But as you may have noticed, The Audacity to Podcast has been rather silent (literally) these past few years. I'm a full-time single daddy to a smart and adorable little boy. He is my world. My first and highest purpose in running my business of helping podcasters has always been to provide for my family—physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
Accomplishing that purpose in the last few years has required me to pause, retire, or step back from a lot of things I enjoyed and that had huge potential: Podcast Places™, Podcast Master Class™, the Ramen Noodle™, Podcasters' Roundtable, ONCE Podcast™, Noodle Mix Network™, Podcasters' Society™, speaking at conferences, and especially The Audacity to Podcast™, and more.
I say this not to elicit pity, but to confirm that saying “yes” to the best things does require saying “no” to a lot of other things. That doesn't mean the other things are bad, only that they might not be good right now.
The Audacity to Podcast, as an audio podcast, is one of those things that I must admit I'm unable to say “yes” to—right now. I do expect to bring it back someday, and maybe I can slip an episode in with no consistency (yes, one of the most important habits in podcasting), but I can't commit to it—right now.
But that motivation that inspired me back in 2010 to make my 35-item topic list, still exists today:
I still believe I have something (or a lot of things) to say about podcasting that isn't already being said.
Add to this the compounding realization of what I said in the opening to my previously favorite podcast episode:
I believe anyone can share a message to change the world, and podcasting is the best way to do that.
So what can you do when you can't podcast?
Write!
While I will certainly attempt to publish on a consistent schedule, at least trying to be weekly, I HAVE A TODDLER! (That reason covers many things!)
To ensure you don't miss any of my articles, I recommend you subscribe to my site via RSS (like all the cool people used to do in the 2000s), and I'll work on a new email list that will automatically send my articles in case you prefer that way.
I'll also share the latest articles on Twitter (@theDanielJLewis) and on The Audacity to Podcast‘s Facebook Page.
If I could ask you to promise me one thing, it would be to hear my voice sharing the podcasting information to you. And maybe someday, that can be a reality again.
The “pen” is still “mightier than the sword.” So even if I can't use my voice to help you change the world through podcasting, I hope my written words can still give you the guts and teach you the tools to start and grow your own podcast for passion and PROFIT!™
