Be BOLD

April Fool's! I'm not saying every podcaster must use the program Audacity, but every podcaster or blogger must have the quality of audacity.

audacity

  1. the quality or state of being audacious: as
    1. intrepid boldness
    2. bold or arrogant disregard of normal restraints <had the audacity to defy his boss>
  2. an audacious act —usually used in plural <her worst audacities did not seem to surprise him — Edith Wharton>

[“audacity,” Merriam–Webster]

audacious

  1. a : intrepidly daring : adventurous <an audacious mountain climber>
    b : recklessly bold : rash <an audacious maneuver>
  2. contemptuous of law, religion, or decorum : insolent
  3. marked by originality and verve <audacious experiments>

[“audacious,” Merriam–Webster]

Audacity isn't just a program that some podcasters can use, but it's a force that drives us to podcast.

1. You're not just the audience anymore

You no longer have to be just listeners, viewers, and readers. You can be storytellers, teachers, broadcasters, and artists with your own audience. Everyone can teach something.

2. Your perspective and experience matter

Experience gave you the perspective you have, and no one else lived your life. Even if you think the knowledge is already shared, it hasn't been shared from your unique perspective.

3. You can make your own rules

“Big media” is restricted by many rules: commercials, air time, frequency, content, contracts, and more. But you can throw away those rules and write your own!

4. You can change the world from your basement

Be consistent and don't give up. Image your basement (or wherever your recording “studio” is) as a doorway to reach the entire world and influence lives.

5. You are not alone

Even if you can't find someone locally who shares your interests, someone else is looking for the conversation. Find those people and you'll discover that even the most niche topic can have a thriving community. Will you lead them?
