You know that I love my Zoom H4n Handy Portable Digital Recorder. It has four different ways that you can connect audio input: two XLR jacks, two 1/4″ phone jacks, a stereo 3.5 mm jack, and built-in mics. Extremely handy to these connections are the two XLR jacks as they allow easy connect of a mixer or a microphone straight into the H4n.
If you use the H4n as a field recorder and connect a mics directly to the two XLR jacks, then you may have been frustrated with the fact that you have to adjust the input volume of both channels combined, not independently. Not anymore! On Tuesday, November 23, Zoom released firmware update 1.7, which they say “Added the function that recording level of INPUT1 and 2 can be set individually.” Field recorders rejoice!
Grab the 1.7 update for the Zoom H4n and follow its instructions.
That's a good additional feature – thanks for the note that the Zoom update was available.
I haven't tested this yet, myself, but I think it only makes sense since the XLR/phone plugs are separate.
awesome thanks for letting us know
You are so welcome!
