https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wdiWehDP-lI

The first National Podcast Day was observed worldwide on September 30, 2014. This was a fabulous day to celebrate podcasting and raise awareness about the world of podcasts. Here are some of the highlights from the day's events.

National Podcast Day proclamation

National Podcast Day was

WHEREAS, with National Podcast Day, we can do more than any other day to raise public consciousness about the value of
podcasts, and broaden the understanding and appreciation of our craft; and

WHEREAS, podcasters have long been known as ambassadors of thought, education and laughter thus bringing inspiration to
all; and

WHEREAS, we will “Start The Conversation” through public engagement, education, and establish standards of excellence; and

WHEREAS, involvement with newly developing technologies to expand the possibilities for creating and distributing media faster
than ever before; and

WHEREAS, through this, everyone can learn from the accomplishments of their peers and predecessors, understand their
community’s pride while celebrating our passions on National Podcast Day.

NOW, THEREFORE, We, as a collective group hereby proclaim September 30th as National Podcast Day

National Podcast Day will be International Podcast Day

No more will you have to debate which nation is represented. National Podcast Day started in the USA, but is a worldwide event. So in Podcasters' Roundtable Round 36, Steve and Dave Lee announced that National Podcast Day would be International Podcast Day next year. There will be even more global celebrations and ways for the international podcast community to participate across all time zones.

#PodcastDay was trending on Twitter

For the whole day, the official hashtag, #PodcastDay—as well as the unofficial #NationalPodcastDay—was trending on Twitter. We saw participation from major podcasting companies like Stitcher, LibSyn, and more; and we also saw podcast celebrities, like Marc Maron, tweeting about the day.

People were sharing their favorite podcasts, releasing special episodes and blog posts, and some people even chose to launch their podcasts on National Podcast Day.

Audio Production Workshop with Mike Russell

Music Radio Creative is the place to get your podcast audio production, audio branding, and several other voices! Starting in UK time, Mike Russell demonstrated these skills in a thirty-minute, free webinar about audio production with Adobe Audition.

Local podcast meetups for National Podcast Day

Jim Collison hosted the Omaha Podcast and New Media Meetup the night before National Podcast Day, and Dave Jackson hosted the Cleveland Podcasters Meetup the night of National Podcast Day. Both events were well attended and had many new and not-yet podcasters.

Why not organize your own local podcast meetup group?

Official National Podcast Day live announcement

Most of the National Podcast Day founders and organizers—Steve Lee, David Lee, Nick Seuberling, and I—hosted a live discussion about podcasting, National Podcast Day, and took calls from the podcasting community. We also talked about our favorite, recent podcast discoveries and where podcasting is going.

AMA (Ask Me Anything) About Podcasting with Daniel J. Lewis

I greatly enjoyed hosting my own live event to celebrate National Podcast Day. I talked about some trends in podcasting, like loudness standards, the patent lawsuit, and gave an behind-the-scenes look at my studio setup. I also invited anyone to talk podcasting and ask me questions. We talked about our favorite podcasts, restarting old podcasts, download and Stitcher stats, and more.

As a limited-time special event, I also gave away some complete podcast review listings, courtesy of My Podcast Reviews. I also announced that My Podcast Reviews would include Stitcher integration next week!

Podcasters' Roundtable with the National Podcast Day team

Ray Ortega hosted a roundtable discussion with Steve Lee, David Lee, Dave Jackson, Nick Seuberling, and me as we discussed National Podcast Day, raising awareness for podcasting, and trends in the podcast space.

How to Podcast for Free on iTunes with Paul Colligan

Paul Colligan is one of the original profitable podcasters and he's back in the space. To celebrate National Podcast Day, Paul hosted a live webinar to show an overview of how to podcast for free with the Auphonic app (or similar) from your mobile device. He also answered plenty of questions about the philosophy of podcasting.
